The Mother We Share - CHVRCHES
Yowza this one is good. I can only imagine how great it would be to see these guys live, not to mention those fabulous Scottish brogues. I’d probably even go just for that, let’s be real.
I really have no clue these days how many times I’ve posted something about Phosphorescent on all my various methods of social media, but after listening to this new album ‘Muchacho’ I can tell you that it most likely is going to be one of my favorite albums of the year. I think it’s still up on NPR’s First Listen for the time being - album drops on March 19th and you better believe I will be purchasing at least one copy, you should too.
I’ve been in a dancing mood lately, positively itching for spring, and this song “Ride On/Right On” perfectly encapsulates that groovy, woozy/waltzy, spring-fevery feeling. I’m a fan, you guys. Ride on/right on, Phosphorescent.
OHHHHH man, am I excited for this. I don’t think there is even one song on Dawes’ two albums and three Daytrotter sessions that I don’t like. New album dropping April 9th.
(Also, can we just talk about how crazy of a musical hotbed Asheville, NC is?! So cool.)
In January fashion here in Minnesota, it’s freaking cold. And dark.. and basically exactly how you’d expect it to be in the northern Midwest. So, I made a playlist as a pick me up for this weather and this month, songs to lift minds and hearts and spirits, and maybe warm you up a little on the insides. Here’s to making it through January and February.
Song for Zula - Phosphorescent
This song has completely and utterly consumed the rest of my day. Not sorry and not mad. Album drops on Dead Ocean (forever love them) on March 19th.
Hey beautiful people. I made this winter mix for you of songs I like for this season. This is for when your ears can’t do Mariah Santa songs anymore, and for on into the frozen depths of January and February. Cheers, I hope you like it.
I went to Shovels & Rope last night and had the most fun.
Cary Ann Hearst is crazy. She laughs and shakes her head and points her fingers and has the time of her life. She swings from note to note and hardly enunciates words, but her voice is incredible and twangy and soul and country. She’s sassy and coy and theatrical, and so genuine and happy too. She and Michael Trent harmonize like only two people that know each other intimately could, loud and perfect and jangly, and they gaze into each other’s eyes and laugh and anticipate exactly what each other is going to do.
I laughed and sang and clapped and danced and stomped my feet on a floor that was bowing and felt like it was going to fall through. It was brilliant.
Continually reminded what a hotbed of incredible music Seattle is.
This is Pickwick, if you haven’t heard.
Hey Rosetta! this past Thursday was the best thing I could have done with my life this week, or month for that matter. Maybe this whole year. I knew it was going to be good, but it really is the greatest when a concert totally exceeds your expectations. Tim Baker was incredible. He told us beforehand that he was a little worried about his voice because it was the last night of tour, and after seeing the show it totally makes sense why his voice would go. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone belt out the entirety of their soul like that before. And he was having a blast. It’s my aim to only go to shows like this. Ones where you can’t stop your body from moving and it feels like your insides are twisting around to your outsides. Thanks, you guys. I cherish it.
There are leaves in the trees, there are trees in the forest.. I made a fall playlist, folks. It’s a good one.
This one.
Husky is coming to my city in two weeks. OK OK.
Sometimes I just can’t even..
This guy’s voice.
Matt Corby - Brother
I keep accidentally listening to albums other than ones prior to 1980 like I’m supposed to this month with my ‘album a day’ thing going on, but this little number from a newish Duluth band (Minnesota music, duh) was a must when I stumbled across it today. Found via Fuel Friends, Heather’s in my city this weekend, yo!
